While the Roku 3 doesn’t provide users with YouTube or iTunes streaming, Walt Mossberg tells us it otherwise is an improvement over previous Roku models and gives a great user experience for those who stream video on their TVs. There are a couple of apps that allow you to stream video to your Roku. Juice is one for android.

MrAmit510 says:

@walt you can watch YouTube videos using Plex app. CON: I see missing in Roku 3 is ability to use AirPlay with my iPhone and an iPad.

RonHarrisMe says:

I was going to list the things that were outright wrong in this review, but YouTube has a limit. Find a different, non-biased reviewer before you buy. Grandpa Walt lost his objectivity a long time ago.

Jonathan Gourd says:

I have YouTube on my Roku via the free Plex app.

ChickenKrispy says:

The lack of iTunes means jack shit to me. iTunes and Apple are a joke. The Roku has always had more features than the Apple TV. The idea of Roku just NOW competing with Apple TV is laughable. Apple TV, rather, should play catch up to Roku. As should Apple, as a company, play catch up to all the other devices on the market.

Flavio Gomes says:

roku also has private channels for youtube, its not called youtube but something else.

Flavio Gomes says:

i ordered mine this morning i hope it comes fast!

JimGeorgeBaker says:

Roku for the win!!!

Mwild00 says:

Apple TV is featureless. I have ios devices and could care less about DRM loaded iTunes and Airplay. Roku has a ton of content and Plex at 1080p.

Ken Weeks says:

The best option right now for pure streaming devices is a jailbroken Apple TV 2 because that runs both Plex and XBMC (look them up if you have to). Unfortunately ATV2s are getting harder to come by and the latest ATV version hasn’t been hacked yet. Out of the box, Roku 3 is currently the best because it offers a Plex client, which is way more useful than airplay. You can add YouTube and iTunes video/music libraries to Plex which negates Walt’s two major cons.

Ryudo9 says:

does not wok on newer Roku’s just older Roku’s and only if you had it added before it was dropped

SheppTown says:

is it a private channel? what’s the name?

pf1950 says:

Roku actually does get youtube

MrKeyframes says:

Screw Youtube. I don’t watch TV to watch youtube. I watch TV to watch TV.
